Eyes

willow catkins beat at the curtains

under sweltering spring clouds

behind screens of tortoise-shell

your dazzling clothes scattered around

butterflies from an eastern neighbor

come fluttering in from the west

today a young man returned

wearing the emperor’s vest

emerald incense fades away

from the luster of the evening

scarlet walls whisper tales

they can’t help repeating

you leave it to your nature

you should leave your nature alone

if you lose face

forfeit your memories

will you forget our

tumble down

summer reveries

I can’t stop wondering

after the how and the why

since I saw butterflies dancing

in your eyes
